a gathering of inspiration to keep you keeping on when you feel like you just. can’t.
Inevitably, that moment always comes. You’ve embarked on your journey of self improvement, but the initial excitement has worn off. Impatience has settled in and you don’t understand why you haven’t yet achieved your goals. You’re tired, discouraged. You want to throw in the towel.
DON’T.
Doing so would be a great injustice to the world. We all need you to be your most fully expressed self, free from what holds you back, to keep going, growing.
So, how do you get into action? One action is all you need. Action has a snowball effect inspiring more action.
Here are a couple of my favorite ways:
1. Seek written encouragement.
Read this: Danielle LaPorte’s manifesto of encouragement.
“Someone is in profound pain, and a few months from now, they’ll be thriving like never before. They just can’t see it from where they’re at.
Someone who is craving to be partnered, to be acknowledged, to ARRIVE, will get precisely what they want — and even more. And because that gift will be so fantastical in it’s reach and sweetness, it will quite magically alter their memory of angsty longing and render it all ‘So worth the wait.’
Someone has recently cracked open their joyous, genuine nature because they did the hard work of hauling years of oppression off of their psyche – this luminous juju is floating in the ether, and is accessible to you.”
2. Use another’s story to remember what’s possible for you.
Watch this: Amy Purdy’s TEDx talk, Living beyond limits
Amy lost both of her legs when she was 19, now she’s winning gold medals for snowboarding. If she can do that, what can we do?
“If you’d ask me today if I ever want to change my situation, I would have to say no. Because, my legs haven’t disabled me, if anything they’ve enabled me. They’ve forced me to rely on my imagination and believe in the possibilities….in our minds we can do anything, we can be anything. It’s believing in those dreams, and facing our fears head on that allows us to live our lives beyond our limits.”
3. Clean up those thoughts.
What’s going on in that little ol’ head of yours? What are you perceiving as true?
I was on the phone with my coach the other day and proclaimed my ‘excuse’ for not moving forward with something. She said, “That’s NOT true. That’s not true for anyone. That’s not even true for you, it’s just been your experience.”
We tend to use our experience to determine what’s true. But, it’s actually the other way around. What we perceive to be true determines our experience. So if you’re feeling discouraged and stuck, then it’s your perceptions that need to be shifted. (And, there’s nothing like a badass coach to call you out)
So, what are you telling yourself that’s true? Here’s a hint: if it feels constrictive, it’s a lie. If it feels expansive and freeing, then that’s the truth. Shift your thoughts until they feel expansive and freeing.
