Einstein Time

By Jackie On July 19, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever heard yourself say:

“Oh, I can’t cook for myself – I don’t have time for that!”

“I’m too busy to workout/meditate/journal!”

“There are not enough hours in the day to make time for myself.”

Who hasn’t, right?

In his book, The Big Leap, Gay Hendricks introduces the reader to the concept of Einstein Time. He says, “When you make the shift to Einstein Time, you experience a major surge in your productivity, creativity, and enjoyment. The shift takes place the moment you embrace one profoundly simple truth:

You’re where time comes from.”

In other words, like Einstein said himself: “Time is an illusion.” There is enough time for us to do everything we desire to do.

As a chronically late person myself, I tend to always feel ‘strapped for time’. This feeling does two things: disempowers me a.k.a. I become of victim of time (I lose ownership of an aspect of my life) and places me in the mindset of scarcity (“There isn’t enough of what I want ‘out there’”). These have a way of flowing out into other areas of life if you don’t stop them in their tracks. Feeling empowered and abundant in all areas of life is our goal here, so we don’t want that!

Making peace with food, specifically, requires us to spend time on ourselves, to incorporate practices of self care & to ::gasp!:: put ourselves first. Resistance to these shifts often come up in the form of “never having the time,” so let’s talk about how we can move ourselves into Einstein Time.

Enlighten yourself. Take an honest look at where you’re spending your time by keeping a ‘time’ journal. Realizing that you spend 4 hours on Facebook, or watching TV each day is quite an eye opener! You will see that you do in fact have time. There is room to fit in what is important to you.

Make a shift in the way you think about time. Catch yourself when you start making the excuse, “I would if I had the time…” Repeat to yourself: I am where time comes from. Really embody the belief that you can create all the time you need to do what is best for you. Act from that place as the creator of time. How does a person who creates her own time act? What does she do?

Get honest. When we use time as an excuse, we’re really saying “I don’t want to do that”. There is something below the surface there. Why don’t you want to do it – do you feel like you don’t deserve it? are you afraid? What is really going on when you say you don’t have the time? It’s often a self-limiting belief and when you realize that, you can move through it. Once you get clear, make a list of what you’d truly like to include more of in your life.

Prioritize. Use your list and prioritize! Your list contains all of those things that are most important to you. You know what you want in your life that will benefit your life – so create that time, my dear! Do what it is that you truly want to do.

I’d love for you to share your thoughts on Einstein Time in the comments below! Tell me – how do you think this could benefit your life?

p.s. As always, I’m a work in progress. Some days I truly embody the concept Einstein Time, while some days I don’t. Today, this article was written in record time – just sayin’. Einstein Time works. ;)
